Day 1: Flag off and onto the road

I reached Nagarcoil on 26th June 2014 , ride date planned was on June 28th 2014.  I had 2 days to buy remaining things if any, preparation like stickering of my bike and helmet (though I was not sponsored by anyone ;)), to make an arrangement on bike to put a flag, to attend press meeting organizes by Mr. Heno and JSP and to take proper and enough rest before the ride.

Those 2 days were really special for me. First time attended any sort of press meeting related to an event which is only and only focused on me. I was little nervous to answer all of the questions they were asking and another difficulty was language but JSP was acting as a translator so it became quite easy J

Press meeting

Later in the evening we went to meet chairman of Nagarcoil and we requested her if she can come for flag off for my event. She became really happy after she heard that a for the first time any female rider has taken such a big initiative. At the same time I was also very happy to see her as a chairman and I was like WE women ROCK JJ
Finally it was 28th June, a big day for me. I couldn’t sleep properly last night because of anxiousness and tension and I woke up at 4:30. I called Roshan and we went to basement parking to get my bike and what I could see was my bike was not starting at all. I was like MY GOD. It was really very upsetting as I could see my bike’s battery was completely drained out but not sure because of what reasonLL Unfortunately this model of Avenger doesn’t have kick also, that was even more frustrating L Now only option remaining was someone had to push the bike hard and fast, I will have to keep bike in 2nd gear and accelerate. That’s what we did Roshan and one more guy was pushing I was accelerating, after 2 trials it started and I was advised by Mr.Kaleem after it starts go for a run of around 5kms so that battery gets charged. I did the same J and it worked. I was happy and just thanked to GOD. Otherwise I got scared as I thought my trip might get delayed by one day if problem is serious. We left to Kanyakumari for flag off.

Flagoff by the chair person of Nagarcoil
Reached Kanyakumari, did some photo shoot near the sea shore following by breakfast. At 7:30am we reached to the sunset point where reporters came and soon Chairman of Nagarcoil also joined and also one rider Srikant (he is on Grand Tour India now ) from Trivandrum came. I was so happy. She flagged off and FINALLY I was on the road…..ALL ALONE, VERY LONG WAY TO GO, MANY MORE CHALLENGES TO COME.

First day I planned to reach till Bagepalli from Kanyakumari (750kms) but as it was already late because of flag off and stuff like that. It looked difficult for me to make it.
I started riding and thought let’s see how much can I make. JSP told me, on the way before Madurai I will have to meet 2 kids who are coming from 110kms just to see and meet me. And he told they are also very enthusiastic about Bikes and cars as I am also big time freak JI said I would love to meet them.

And before Madurai on the left side I could see an Indigo or Indica (don’t remember exactly now) was parked and 2 little cute kids with their parents were waiting for me. I stopped and met them it was really nice meeting all of them. Mother of the kids was just overwhelmed to see me and asked from where did u get this courage to do it? How your parents allowed to even thinking of such a big feat? What precaution you have taken as a girl? What if anything happens to your bike? So many questions I agree its natural. I tried my best to answer her all the questions and she was satisfied with my answers. After that I talked to kids and we clicked some pics together J
I started towards Bangalore. My next destination was SALEM. Road was just amazing, Just hold the handle and go (Not literally though ;)). It was NH7, India’s longest highway starts from Kanyakumari ends in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh with total length of 2300+kms. I maintained continuous speed of 90, average of that day was 65-68kmph and took brakes every hour.  Before reaching Salem, in between for some time I was so sleepy. People are usually in the habit of drinking tea or coffee in their regular life which also works as to keep them away from drowsiness that’s what they believe in but I drink neither of them(Though I like drinking coffee sometimes and that happens very rarely). I took a brake washed my face, drank some water and talked to the shop keeper for sometime.

Started again towards Bangalore, had lunch on the way. Took small brakes in between, got fuel filled, checked tyre pressure. And by evening 8pm I was in Bangalore, there I met one of my friend Shashi we rode together till the outskirts of Bangalore where I booked a hotel for me.
Met Shashi
I booked hotel in the outskirts of Bangalore so that next I need not to beat the city traffic and directly I will be on the highway which was my home for next 9days LOL. We had dinner together and he went back. As I said earlier I could not make it till Bagepalli though Bagepalli was not very far it’s was 80kms but that meant a lot to me…..

What better time than now...

It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime. What better place than here ? what better time than now ? - Zach de la Rocha All my life I have stayed in India and never had an urge to go abroad. One reason is because India itself is so diverse and beautiful and there is so much to see and explore that not even one life is enough. Also, through all my biking trips and travels I have found endless peace and excitement that I never had to look anywhere else. For the first time I moved out from India to Amsterdam, The Dutch capital. A country lying below sea level and mostly has flat terrain. It has a long history of social tolerance and generally regarded as a liberal country having legalized abortion, prostitution and euthanasia. I remember some of my colleagues in Bosch who visited Europe and never stopped babbling their experiences. Nobody honks and people follow traffic rules and if you are a pedestrian or a cyclist you will actually be respected more on roads. No one wou

My first love in the Netherlands ....

From centuries old windmills, tulip fields, fishing villages, unique country side, enchanting canals and amazing nightlife, Netherlands is famous for countless things. I came to this country in 2016 and immediately fell in love. I live in Amsterdam and the the first shocker was the amount of bikes everywhere. I love bikes and had one back home. As much as it was a shock, it was fascinating and inspiring. My searc h for a a bike that suits me started on the very first day of my arrival. Though rough and tough, I found the dutch city bikes boring, ugly and heavy and not something for my taste. My husband tried all tricks to convince me but I was unshakable and wanted something differet. Finally I stumbled upon this pink sleek beauty and It was love at first sight. Next day it become our family member and I was so happy exploring the beautiful city like local on my lovely cute bike. Be it going for groceries, yoga classes on the other side of city or job interviews, my fixie was my co

Day 1 - Delhi to Churu

Though I was all set I was yet to share the plan with my father. Not surprisingly he wasn't pleased and this was not the first time. By now I have practiced the art of convincing my dad. A day before the journey I went through my most basic checklist: full fuel tank - checked, air pressure - checked. It was cold outside and I made sure to park the bike in shade to avoid early morning ignition issues. By now I could feel the butterflies in my stomach, that very same feeling I get a night before my bike trips; trying hard to sleep but countless thoughts and the anxiety encroaching my mind. Almost 7 in the morning I and my sister were ready to leave and as a rule of thumb I switched on the engine and left it running for couple of minutes. Though a rare sight, my husband woke up early to click some pics for us and see us off. The next moment I was on the road heading towards Churu (enroute Bahadurgarh, Sampla, Bhiwani and Jhunjhunu). Barely I had travelled few miles w
